Thursday June 6

9:00 AM  –  3:00 PM

Join us for this special opportunity to hear from experimental filmmaker and animator Jeff Scher, who won an Emmy for his work on the HBO documentary The Number on Great-Grandpa's Arm, and from Professor James Waller, Cohen Professor of Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Keene State College, who will address the topic of confronting genocide. Teachers will select their afternoon program from one of the following options:

  • Self-guided visit to Auschwitz. Not long ago. Not far away. (with audio guide)
  • Workshop: Teaching Jewish Resistance during the Holocaust – The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising with the Jewish Partisan Educational Foundation (JPEF): Inspire students with the true story of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, the most significant act of armed Jewish resistance during the Holocaust. Educators will also learn about the 30,000 Jews, many of them teenagers, who fought back against the Nazis and their collaborators as Jewish partisans throughout Europe. This workshop explores historical context as well as questions of honor and responsibility.
  • Facilitated tour of the special exhibition Ordinary Treasures: Highlights From The Museum Of Jewish Heritage Collection with a Gallery Educator

Participants will earn CTLE hours. This program is open to active classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, and school administrators.

Chancellor’s Conference Day of Professional Learning is free, but pre-registration is required. Lunch will be provided to teachers who register by May 30.

The Meilman Virtual Classroom has been made possible by The Myron and Alayne Meilman Family Foundation in memory of Alayne Meilman.
