Using primary sources and brand new scholarship, historian Suzanne Cope illuminates the roles played by women - working as couriers, taking up arms as combattants, helping Jewish friends and family escape into hiding, writing underground newspapers, among other actions - while Italians struggled under dual foes: Nazi invaders and Italian fascist loyalists.
