Livorno, Italy is a port city on the west coast of Tuscany with a Jewish community that dates back to the sixteenth century. This livestreamed, virtual walking tour will begin at the Piazza della Repubblica, home to the Monumento dei Quattro Mori; this statue commemorates the power of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, which protected the Jews of Livorno during the Renaissance. From there, we will walk to the Jewish Ghetto, established in the seventeenth century, visiting the Jewish cemetery, which has an impressive collection of sepulchral monuments. We will also visit the beautiful synagogue, designed by architect Angelo Di Castro and built in 1962 in the modernist style. Co-presented with Wowzitude.
